In one of the lamest showings of trash talk in the history of professional sports, Mets closer Frank Francisco called the Yankees “chickens” prior to this weekend’s Subway Series.

I can’t wait to face those chickens. I want to strike out the side against them. I’ve done it before.

Whoa. Take it easy, Gary Payton. My five-year-old nieces sling better insults than that. Frank Frank could’ve called the Yankees ‘big, stupid doo-doo heads’ and I would’ve had more respect for him. I have no problem with talking trash, but if you’re going to run your mouth at least make it a good jab.

Furthermore, if you’re going to call a team chicken at least say why you’re calling them that. This tool refused to elaborate on why he said it: (more…)

While the ten-game win streak ended in the series loss to the Atlanta Braves, the New York Yankees still find themselves in first place in the American League East. They did get a little help from their cross-town rivals, the New York Mets, after they swept the Baltimore Orioles at Citi Field. The Yankees swept the Bronx installment of the Subway Series a couple of weeks ago, but now the series shifts down the 7 train and the Mets’ pitching has been lights out over the last few weeks and boasts one of the top rotations in the National League. The question is will the Yankees’ rotation bounce back after two mediocre starts from Hiroki Kuroda and Phil Hughes?

While the series finale with the Tampa Bay Rays did not go well for CC Sabathia and company, the New York Yankees were still able to take yet another series from their AL East rivals and are a half game back of the Ray and Baltimore Orioles for the AL East division lead. Plus, the Yankees got some great starting pitching from both Andy Pettitte and Ivan Nova in this series. Now, Interleague Play resumes again and it starts tonight against the crosstown rivals who are actually playing some very good baseball and are one of the surprises in the National League.

A Yankee fan cannot be happy with the current six game losing streak the team is going through. Off the field the Yankees were forced to deal with the Jorge Posada debacle and on the field their high priced players are not getting the job done.

The pitching has been poor. The Yankees have given up 39 runs during the 6 game losing streak. The starting rotation has not been able to get past the 7th inning and has blown leads. Freddy Garcia blew a 4-1 lead on Sunday night against the Red Sox and A.J Burnett who was cruising for most of Monday night’s game, imploded in the 6th inning blowing a 5-1 lead against the Rays. A lot of pressure has also been put on the bullpen and they blew 2 leads during this streak.

The offense has been the biggest disappointment. The Yankees have two players in the lineup who are batting above .280 (Cano .286 and Granderson .280). The rest of the team is in a total funk. Some of these numbers are scary: Jeter .255, A-Rod .242, Gardner .248, Teixeira .252, Posada .165, and Swisher .218. Additionally, when the Yankees do not hit home runs, they struggle to score runs. In the 6 game losing streak, they have only scored 22 runs. Eleven (50%) of the runs came from 7 home runs. (more…)
