The big news surrounding the New York Yankees is of course the acquisition of Ichiro Suzuki from the Seattle Mariners which went down hours before he was set to take the field against the Bombers. The New York Yankees have traded D.J. Mitchell and Danny Farquhar to the Seattle Mariners for Ichiro Suzuki and cash first reported by Jack Curry of the YES Network via Twitter. Ichiro will be in tonight’s lineup for the Yankees, but the position in the lineup has yet to be determined by manager Joe Girardi. (more…)

The New York Yankees will seemingly be without Brett Gardner for the remainder of the 2012 season as he will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his left elbow next week. Yankees Talk Trade For Outfielder, Foolish Move I Say

‘Round this time of year there are always trade rumors swirling, especially with the Yankees. Some trade talks are crazy, but a few do have some merit. One legit NYY rumor that we’ve heard over the past week is that the team is looking to upgrade its outfield and have had talks with the Phillies regarding Shane Victorino.

For the record, I don’t think the Yankees need to (nor should they) make any trades. The team is on fire, boasts a 10-game lead* in the division and has the best record in ball. Sure, Brett Gardner is not returning this year but the LF platoon has been absolutely raking and holding it down. Why give up prospects for a guy who would marginally (if that) make the team better? Upon word yesterday that Brett Gardner suffered another setback, his third such instance since he was shelved on April 17 with a right elbow strain, the rumor mill became awash with potential options the New York Yankees should explore to fill Gardner’s shoes if it was determined he would miss the rest of the season. What should the Yankees do? Explore the market to replace Gardner or stand pat with the current crew in left field? My feeling is they should resist any urge to make a deal and here is why. (more…)

If you’ve followed the New York Yankees at all then you know that in the near future – maybe this season, in fact – the team needs to figure how to fill some of the positions in the outfield. As of right now, right fielder Nick Swisher‘s contract is expiring at the end of this season. Meanwhile, center fielder Curtis Granderson has a $13M club option ($2M buyout) for 2013. So what do the Yankees do?
