Poor Russell Martin. The New York Yankees catcher is having a downright awful season, and when players on the Yankees have downright awful seasons, they get torn apart by fans. Now of course, Martin is performing very badly, and fans are right to be frustrated, but rather than blame him for not working hard enough, I prefer to look at the stats, and see what has gone wrong, and what he needs to do to get better. The decline of New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez has not been difficult to spot, nor has it been ignored in the mainstream media. After an illustrious 14 years or so of crushing the ball as one of the best players in baseball, time has finally caught up to A-Rod. Robinson Cano never ceases to amaze. As great of a player as he has been for the New York Yankees, especially in the past few years, something clicked with Cano this season. While he might not look like a different player on the surfuce, the underlying numbers reveal a changed approach at the plate for Cano, which could make him a strong MVP candidate for years to come.
