The Yankees Minor League Report is back from a short break and will be run weekly on Fridays beginning with today’s post. There has been some movement of players in the system in the past week and some 2012 draftees have begun play since the last report. The New York Yankees have gone to great lengths over the last several seasons to strengthen their farm system and emphasize the importance of growing talent in the minor leagues through the amateur draft and international signings. While fans of the other 29 MLB teams view the Yankees as a cash cow, anyone who truly examines the club can see that the Yankees are in the midst of balancing young talent with pricey superstars. Yankees select center fielder Austin Aune and catcher Peter O’Brien in second round

The New York Yankees chose to go up the middle with their second round picks in the 2012 MLB First-Year Player Draft. With the 89th pick overall, the Yanks chose center fielder Austin Aune from Argyle High School (Texas) and then with the 94th pick selected University of Miami catcher Peter O’Brien. (more…)
