At 12:01 Sunday morning the free agency frenzy begins. Teams are able to negotiate with any of the free agents on the market. We’ll keep you updated on any news that breaks. Stay tuned.

The Yanks have already bounced Chad Gaudin and Royce Ring has declared free agency, among other moves. No need to go into detail about Jeet, Mo, Cliff Lee and the others. We all know the story.

I completely understand them wanting Kerry Wood, but apparently the Cubbies are interested in Nick Johnson too. O_O Are you kidding me? That has to be a joke. Have fun with that.

Also, listen to Mattingly talk about the Arizona Fall League and the NL West…because, why not? Any Hitman news is good news to me.

Heading into the All-Star Break, the Yankees are sitting pretty with a 56-32 record and a two-game lead in the brutal AL East. It has been an up-and-down first half to say the least, but, obviously, winning cures all.

In addition to the best record in baseball, the Yanks (469) are second in the Majors in runs scored (Red Cox – 481), second (5.33) in the Majors in runs/game (BOS – 5.47), tops in the Majors in OBP (.353), tied for first in the Majors in OPS+ (114, BOS) and third in the Majors in WHIP (1.248). Not too shabby.

Before I forget, here are the first annual Yanks Go Yard Awards for the first half: (more…)
