The Bronx Bombers begin their second half of the season tonight as they try to continue their positive momentum from their 52-33 first-half record. Their opponent will be a team that is coming into their own as well in the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. The Angels are right in the thick of things in the AL West as well as being one of the front-runners for one of those two wild card spots.

Yankees Second-Half Predictions

Earlier today, the Yanks Go Yard staff looked back at some of the biggest surprises and disappointments from the first half. Now I’d like to look forward to the second-half for the New York Yankees. Will the top performers keep performing? Will the slackers pick up the pace? Who will be the biggest surprises and disappointments in the second half? Will another mediocre relief pitcher refer to the Yankees as some sort of farm animal? I don’t know about the last question, but I can make some educated guesses about the others. (more…)

Yankees shutdown by Haren and Angels defense

The New York Yankees expected things to be tough in Anaheim, it always is, but this time around they’ve run into a buzzsaw. Both teams entered the series on their longest win streaks of the season, but only the Angels streak is intact. Behind a strong pitching performance from Dan Haren, and some great defensive plays by Mike Trout and Peter Bourjos, the Angels defeated the Yankees and Andy Pettitte, 5-1. (more…)

Collision Course: Yankees lose wild one to Angels on walk-off blast in ninth

The New York Yankees and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim entered the game on five-game and six-game respective win streaks. The collision course ended poorly for the Yankees. They couldn’t take full advantage of an injury to Angels’ starter Jered Weaver after he faced just three batters to begin last night’s ballgame. (more…)
