Since the All-Star break the Yankees have been unable to put together a streak to remind everyone how good of a team they really are. The combination of offense highlighted by Curtis Granderson‘s grand slam and a strong pitching effort from CC Sabathia is a formula they’ve had trouble manufacturing on a regular basis all season. While the Yankees’ trip to Los Angeles was not as great as fans would hope, they were still able to salvage the series thanks to the long ball from Curtis Granderson (former Tiger) and Robinson Cano. The bullpen also held its own as the New York Yankees end their West Coast trip with a 4-2 record. Now, they will finish up their road trip with a visit to Comerica Park against the struggling Detroit Tigers (24-27)

Yankees set to take on Tigers in last leg of road trip

The New York Yankees are set to take on a Detroit Tigers team which is suffering from the same issues; inconsistency and underachievement. The Yanks (27-23) are looking to build on a 4-2 record on the nine-game road trip, while the Tigers (24-27) are returning home after a 4-6 road trip highlighted by a pair of three-game losing streaks with a three-game win streak in the middle. The Futility List: Bottom To Top – Ranking Week 1

The Futility List is all about that… futility. Sure, many another website will give you a nice and clean MLB team power rankings, listing the league from top to bottom, but I say those teams at the end need love too. So, we’ll start our list at the bottom! It’s not all about the breast… err, best team, you know!

Let’s put the face down and the bottoms up… wait, I’m mixing metaphors again… and let’s get to the first edition of THE FUTILITY LIST!

1. Washington Nationals (0-6)- If baseball were a bar, the Nats would be the guy in the corner with a drink in hand, standing alone, and sweating. Profusely.

2. New York Yankees (3-3) – Going .500 combined against the Baltimore Orioles and Kansas City Royals, two teams not expected to do much this season except watch the “real” franchises above them, is not a good way to get out of the gate. So with the expectation factor in mind, this ranking is about as right as two ugly lesbians being a couple.
