The Yankees news just keeps going from bad to worse. Mark Teixeira is out 8-10 weeks with a strained ECU tendon in his right wrist he suffered hitting off of a tee while working out for team USA. Can I Have A Mulligan: Which (Other) Contract Would The New York Yankees Take Back?

At the conclusion of the 2013 season, the Yankees will have some big financial decisions to make. With a goal of getting down to $189 million dollars, they will have to make some painful moves to shed salary, including what may lead to many longtime and star players- Andy Pettitte, Mariano Rivera, Curtis Granderson, and maybe Robinson Cano- to depart the Bronx. These moves have already begun with the recent off-season losses of Russell Martin, Rafael Soriano and Nick Swisher. As the Yankees (somewhat ironically, I might add) attempt to shed salary, you kind of have to wonder: if the Yankees could re-do one contract to have maybe kept, say, Martin in 2013, or to help with offset a new Cano contract in 2014, Mark Teixeria’s deal would be pretty high on the list.

It’s been slow for Yankees news the past few days, so we’ll be bringing you some links from around Yankee-verse and give you our take on the matter.

If you’re a fan of sabermetrics, which most of us here at YGY are, then you know that bunting is one of the more worthless occurrences in baseball. A team is only given a finite amount of outs (27) and bunting pretty much ensures a team is giving one away. In a recent article from MLB.com’s Bryan Hoch, he takes a question from a reader who asks, in order for Mark Teixeira to beat the shift, should he bunt more? (more…)
