Subway Series Podcast Preview: Queens Edition

While the ten-game win streak ended in the series loss to the Atlanta Braves, the New York Yankees still find themselves in first place in the American League East. They did get a little help from their cross-town rivals, the New York Mets, after they swept the Baltimore Orioles at Citi Field. The Yankees swept the Bronx installment of the Subway Series a couple of weeks ago, but now the series shifts down the 7 train and the Mets’ pitching has been lights out over the last few weeks and boasts one of the top rotations in the National League. The question is will the Yankees’ rotation bounce back after two mediocre starts from Hiroki Kuroda and Phil Hughes?

Yankees-Braves Podcast Preview

The first round of the Subway Series turned out to be instant success for the New York Yankees. During their sweep, they blew out a quality pitcher in Johan Santana, got some solid starting pitching, and some timely hitting. The clutch hitting culminated with Russell Martin‘s walk-off home run in the 9th inning on Sunday to end the sweep. The Bronx Bombers have won four straight and went 5-1 on the homestand. However, they now face a tough six-game road trip against two solid National League East teams.

Yankees belt four homers, batter Santana and Mets 9-1

The New York Yankees made quick work of denying New York Mets starter Johan Santana’s bid for a duplicate effort of last Friday’s no-hitter. Robinson Cano hit two, two-run homers, including the first of three in a row. Hiroki Kuroda was again fantastic, flirting with a no-no of his own as the Yankees blasted the Mets 9-1 in the first game of the Subway Series. (more…)

The New York Yankees (31-25) are getting ready for game number 57 on their schedule and while it is against the cross-town rival New York Mets (32-26), a victory or loss in any game of the total-six game set, is no more important than the six games they’ll play this season against the Atlanta Braves. Subway Series Preview Podcast: Bronx Edition

While the series finale with the Tampa Bay Rays did not go well for CC Sabathia and company, the New York Yankees were still able to take yet another series from their AL East rivals and are a half game back of the Ray and Baltimore Orioles for the AL East division lead. Plus, the Yankees got some great starting pitching from both Andy Pettitte and Ivan Nova in this series. Now, Interleague Play resumes again and it starts tonight against the crosstown rivals who are actually playing some very good baseball and are one of the surprises in the National League.

The Futility List: Bottom To Top – Ranking Week 1

The Futility List is all about that… futility. Sure, many another website will give you a nice and clean MLB team power rankings, listing the league from top to bottom, but I say those teams at the end need love too. So, we’ll start our list at the bottom! It’s not all about the breast… err, best team, you know!

Let’s put the face down and the bottoms up… wait, I’m mixing metaphors again… and let’s get to the first edition of THE FUTILITY LIST!

1. Washington Nationals (0-6)- If baseball were a bar, the Nats would be the guy in the corner with a drink in hand, standing alone, and sweating. Profusely.

2. New York Yankees (3-3) – Going .500 combined against the Baltimore Orioles and Kansas City Royals, two teams not expected to do much this season except watch the “real” franchises above them, is not a good way to get out of the gate. So with the expectation factor in mind, this ranking is about as right as two ugly lesbians being a couple.

2009 MLB Season Predictions – Who Will Win?

The season starts tonight when the Atlanta Braves visit NL East rival and defending World Series champions, from the City of Brotherly Love, the Philadelphia Phillies. Looking at last year before the season, some people didn’t think the Phils would win their division, let alone the ultimate MLB prize, a championship ring. People just get it wrong sometimes. However, the exercise of predictions is always a fun one to partake in, particularly for a writer that loves baseball. So, that said, below are my prognostications for the upcoming 2009 season with some brief comments for each division results. After choosing the World Series champs, I’ll predict the individual awards as well. Agree or disagree, leave a comment!
