Joba Chamberlain Needs An Attitude Check

We all know just how emotional Joba Chamberlain can be. Right from his first appearance, the hard-throwing pitcher was never one to let his feelings hold him back. Constantly we would see him pump his fists on the mound after a big out — this was something that every New York Yankee fan loved to see in a time where the team was strictly all business. But over time, and especially after the “Joba-Rules” were enacted, Chamberlain became more of a hassle than an enjoyment. Over the last few years, we have come to learn that Chamberlain is prone to – let’s say – spats with other players. Unfortunately, he picked the wrong person to mess with this time. (more…)

Well he’s certainly fond of the idea to be in a rotation again, whether it’s with the New York Yankees or not.

It’s true folks, Joba Chamberlain has the itch to become a starting pitcher again and really, maybe that isn’t necessarily a bad thing for the Yankees. While Chamberlain really has had quite the up and down career with some injuries thrown in there, the future of this rotation still remains uncertain. We can try to speculate who won’t and will be there in the coming seasons, but perhaps putting someone like Chamberlain in there, who has had prior starting experience before, could be for the better. A couple of short, but important, news items on the docket today. Both Phil Hughes and Joba Chamberlain avoid arbitration, both agreeing to one-year deals. For Hughes it was his last trip through arbitration, as he is eligible for free agency after this season. As for Chamberlain, this is also his last time through arbitration before becoming a free agent. So the Yankees have some thinking to do before doling out multi-year deals for both of these pitchers. Joba Chamberlain didn’t have much of a 2012 season. During the offseason, Chamberlain suffered an injury to his right ankle during a trampoline accident. Some questioned the reliever’s intentions because this was a risky move with the regular season quickly approaching especially since Chamberlain was also recovering from Tommy John surgery. Yet, you just couldn’t get mad at Joba for wanting to have a good time with his son, Karter. After spending time on the disabled list, Chamberlain returned to the club Aug. 1 against the Baltimore Orioles. (more…)
