On Wednesday, the New York Yankees were able to salvage the sweep from the Baltimore Orioles with a dominating 12-3 victory. They got the bats going again, including the ninth career grand slam from Robinson Cano. Plus, the Bronx faithful got to see the return of Joba Chamberlain to the bullpen. The lead is still a comfortable six and a half games for the Yankees over the Orioles and the Tampa Bay Rays in the division. Now, the Bombers will look to go on a winning streak to finish off their nine-game homestand against a non-contender that is playing some of their best baseball of the season.

I recently got into a discussion (more like an argument) with somebody over the Ichiro Suzuki trade. This person claimed the 11-year veteran didn’t improve the current New York Yankees roster. I was flabbergasted, outraged, and felt that this particular person had no idea what they were talking about. Specifically, he claimed that Dewayne Wise was every bit as good as Ichiro this season and shouldn’t have seen his playing time and roster spot disappear. Furthermore, he added Ichiro is only good by name, not by the numbers. So, I’m going to put their stats side-by-side and let you decide who you’d rather have. The only caveat is I’m not going to tell you which player is who.

Well, the West Coast trip for the Yankees so far has been a bumpy road down Route 66. Over the course of the four games with the Oakland Athletics, the A’s were able to get the big hits late in games and found a way to come up with a huge four-game sweep of the Bronx Bombers. A lot of Yankee fans feel that this series personifies why this team will not win in October. With the injury to Nick Swisher on Saturday, does Brian Cashman now consider bringing in a small piece to help out the outfield at the trade deadline? We shall see, but now the scene shifts to Seattle. (more…)

On the heels of the events of the last week or so I thought I’d take a look at how the Yankees and double standards have come into play in MLB.

The first thing that caught my attention was Rafael Soriano and Untuckgate. I couldn’t fathom how a guy who untucked his jersey after he recorded a save garnered so much attention from the media. Who cares if he does that? MSM does, I soon realized. He was vilified by baseball purists as a player who broke the sacred “unwritten rules” by showing up an opponent. OK, whatever. Manager Joe Girardi said he had his closer’s back and that it didn’t bother him, which seemed to quash the controversy. (more…)
