The past few days for the New York Yankees have seen quite the contrast in headlines. Just yesterday, Yankees’ fans read a bit of news that wasn’t so wonderful. General manager Brian Cashman announced Friday that he’s not ruling out the possibility of Alex Rodriguez missing the entire season. That bit of news comes out just days after Yankees’ fans read that Gary Sanchez, the highly touted catching prospect in the farm league, was ranked third in the top 10 prospect catchers behind Travis d’Arnaud of the Mets and Mike Zunino of the Mariners. As you may or may not have heard, the Yankees are hurting for some catching help. In a perfect world, Russell Martin would have signed a one- or two-year pact to stay and allowed the club to develop one of their better prospects in Gary Sanchez without rushing him. Once thought of as a back-up in case Jesus Montero didn’t pan out behind the plate, Sanchez is now is the de facto #1 catching prospect in the the Yankees system and with good reason. (more…)

New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi has all the confidence in the world in starting catcher Russell Martin. The organization showed hesitation in Martin as a long-term solution this past offseason, instead offering a one-year deal worth $7.5 million. It’s looking like they made the right decision. (more…)

With the loss of CC Sabathia until after the All-Star break and Andy Pettitte out for at least 6 weeks, the Yankees are left with a lot of question marks in their rotation. Yankees General Manager Brian Cashman has already come out and said that the Yankees would “prefer not to go outside (the organization)” While I agree going outside the organization is not preferred when you’re the Yankees and the expectation is the World Series or bust than you must explore all your options and I believe Matt Garza to be the best option.
