First, former Cy Young award winner, Felix Hernandez, is on the verge of an extension with the Seattle Mariners. Two recent stories have come out saying that Seattle Mariners ace, Felix Hernandez and Texas Rangers shortstop, Elvis Andrus are playing hardball in contract extension negotiations. On Wednesday, the New York Yankees were able to salvage the sweep from the Baltimore Orioles with a dominating 12-3 victory. They got the bats going again, including the ninth career grand slam from Robinson Cano. Plus, the Bronx faithful got to see the return of Joba Chamberlain to the bullpen. The lead is still a comfortable six and a half games for the Yankees over the Orioles and the Tampa Bay Rays in the division. Now, the Bombers will look to go on a winning streak to finish off their nine-game homestand against a non-contender that is playing some of their best baseball of the season.

This has been a rough season for injuries for the New York Yankees. But, they have persevered through each one. The latest player to head to the disabled list is Alex Rodriguez, who suffered a non-displaced fracture of the fifth metacarpal bone in his left hand, after being struck by an 88-mph change-up delivered by Seattle mariners starter Felix Hernandez. The New York Yankees pulled off a significant trade for one of the Seattle Mariners best players ever, Ichiro Suzuki, hours before the teams were set to play the opener of a three-game series last night. Ichiro packed up his locker on the home side of Safeco Field and planted himself on the visiting side, donning number 31 for the first-place Yankees. (more…)

Well, the West Coast trip for the Yankees so far has been a bumpy road down Route 66. Over the course of the four games with the Oakland Athletics, the A’s were able to get the big hits late in games and found a way to come up with a huge four-game sweep of the Bronx Bombers. A lot of Yankee fans feel that this series personifies why this team will not win in October. With the injury to Nick Swisher on Saturday, does Brian Cashman now consider bringing in a small piece to help out the outfield at the trade deadline?
