Yankees should consider Eric Chavez for another season

When Eric Chavez re-signed with the New York Yankees last season, they hoped he would once again provide a reliable glove in the field and a modest bat to spell Alex Rodriguez at third base. He did much more than that and his production in 2012 should provoke the Yankees to consider a third season in pinstripes for Chavez. (more…)

Eric Chavez came to the New York Yankees without much expectation. He knew his limitations as a player and knew the Yankees didn’t view him as a starter. That is what makes Chavez such a great bench player for the Yankees. The oft-injured corner infielder allowed the Yankees some flexibility when resting Alex Rodriguez, or to help step in when A-Rod went down to injury. Again, he played his role perfectly.

A few players that could impress the Yankees in September

With September being two weeks away, the rosters for every team expand from 25 players to 40. With those extra 15 players, there may be a few that could make a case to be on the team next year instead of being in the minors. The New York Yankees have a few interesting players, especially in areas where they are hurting. The starting pitching outside of Hiroki Kuroda has been extremely sluggish, the bullpen could always use some padding and offensively, some of these guys who are playing now may not be there next year. A few players the Yankees may want to keep an eye on are Adam Warren, Brandon Laird, Justin Thomas, and David Adams as they are all on the 40-man roster. (more…)

Yankees take third straight from Rangers; looking for sweep today

The New York Yankees are on a roll and it’s their pitching doing most of the leg work. Freddy Garcia continues to be reliable, if not better, than some of his younger cohorts. He tossed 6 2/3 innings of two-run ball, both runs off Josh Hamilton homers, as the Yankees have won the seven of their last eight games. (more…)

New York Yankees right fielder Nick Swisher blasted a go-ahead grand slam and Derek Lowe pitched four innings of relief for his first save in over 11 years (almost to the date) which helped earn David Phelps his first victory as a starter in the Yankees 8-2 drubbing of Ryan Dempster and the Texas Rangers. It’s been a struggle for the Yankees since losing Alex Rodriguez to injury. The team has struggled to fill the void in their lineup. The New York Yankees took a step in the right direction yesterday winning their second straight game, salvaging a split with the Detroit Tigers and ended a spell of eight consecutive losses in games decided by one run. They did it with an eighth inning rally which consisted of two pitches. (more…)

The injuries, the inability to hit with runners in scoring position, inconsistency in each facet of the game and perceived managerial lapses have all been a part of the 2012 New York Yankees season. You know what? After 110 games, the Bronx Bombers are in first place by five games in the loss column (yes John Sterling in this instance you are right; forget the half game, the loss column is where the records matter). Yet, most of the chatter from some “fans” blasts the Yankees. I say this is a team that should be embraced. (more…)
