Blue Jays bury Hughes; Yankees unable to dig all the way out in 10-7 loss

The New York Yankees saw their four-game win streak snapped yesterday afternoon as Phil Hughes suffered through his second poor start in a row. The Toronto Blue Jays ripped Hughes to the tune of seven runs in four innings dropping his record to 11-10 and raising his ERA to 4.44. The Yankees mounted a spirited comeback but it fell short in the 10-7 loss. (more…)

The New York Yankees are linked to players each year around the trade deadline and yesterday talk of going after an outfielder began to peak when it was announced Brett Gardner had his third setback with his injured elbow. General manager Brian Cashman has been preaching that moves won’t be made for moves sake and that he is comfortable with the roster as currently constituted. Raul Ibanez may have further cemented that stance with a tie-breaking grand slam in last night’s 6-3 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays. (more…)

The New York Yankees won their first series after the All-Star break taking two of three from the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. The Bombers (54-34) maintain an eight-game lead over the Baltimore Orioles in the American League East. Their next opponent, the Toronto Blue Jays, also resides in baseball’s strongest division. Kuroda, Yankees embarrassed by Blue Jays 8-1

Hiroki Kuroda‘s road woes continued last night as the New York Yankees were pummeled by the Toronto Blue Jays at Rogers Centre, 8-1. Kuroda allowed seven earned runs including three home runs in five difficult to watch innings. (more…)
