Is Eduardo Nunez’s time as a Yankee ticking away?

If there’s one New York Yankee whose future may be in jeopardy, it’s Eduardo Nunez. Let’s face it folks, Nunez is really not well liked by anyone as a player. Nunez has proven examples for his failing popularity, so it’s just not the tough fans grilling him to blame. He has a glove made of Swiss cheese, a bat that for whatever reason people find impressive and he’s definitely not someone I would call the successor to Derek Jeter‘s throne someday. Looking at who is in the farm, there are two people who are going to be ready to replace Nunez sooner than later. (more…)

Eduardo Nunez was a conundrum all season long. He showed some promise with the bat, and jump-started this homer-happy team’s ability to do some damage on the bases. While New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman has consistently talked about how valuable Nunez is to the team, so much so that the he recently shot down hope of moving him to another position in order to maintain his value at shortstop. However, to say Nunez is a defensively-challenged player is to put it mildly. After watching 15 years of Derek Jeter‘s smooth play at the position, it is understandably unnerving to think of Nunez as the heir apparent to The Captain. But could it be possible that Nunez can contribute to the Yankees in 2013, in one way or another? (more…)

Eduardo Nunez came into this season with a somewhat hazy picture of what his future with the Yankees was going to entail. By all accounts, Nunez has almost everything a MLB shortstop should have to succeed. He has speed, hits decently, flashes some power, and has a cannon for an arm. He’s the perfect player to fill the enormous shoes of Derek Jeter and at least help fill some of the void, right? (more…)

A few players that could impress the Yankees in September

With September being two weeks away, the rosters for every team expand from 25 players to 40. With those extra 15 players, there may be a few that could make a case to be on the team next year instead of being in the minors. The New York Yankees have a few interesting players, especially in areas where they are hurting. The starting pitching outside of Hiroki Kuroda has been extremely sluggish, the bullpen could always use some padding and offensively, some of these guys who are playing now may not be there next year. A few players the Yankees may want to keep an eye on are Adam Warren, Brandon Laird, Justin Thomas, and David Adams as they are all on the 40-man roster. (more…)

Yankees Injury News: The Walking Wounded

This has been a rough season for injuries for the New York Yankees. But, they have persevered through each one. The latest player to head to the disabled list is Alex Rodriguez, who suffered a non-displaced fracture of the fifth metacarpal bone in his left hand, after being struck by an 88-mph change-up delivered by Seattle mariners starter Felix Hernandez. Yankees’ bench allowing luxuries to Cashman, Girardi and starting squad

When the New York Yankees take the field on a given day, they send out a starting squad with a mix of older veterans, seasoned players and “peak” performers. The youngest players on the field on a regular basis are Russell Martin and Robinson Cano, both 29-years-old with Martin being four months Cano’s minor. Of course, the Yankees’ brass knew this going into the season, so their desire when building the bench was to have players who could not only fill in on occasion, but could handle lengthier periods of time on the field if required. The Yankees hoped that if there was a need to play a reserve on a more regular basis, they would not hinder the team’s overall performance. This Yankees’ bench has done that and more in 2012. (more…)
