Binder Joe’s Dream: Yankees’ bullpen will be loaded and a major asset in September

New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi couldn’t have been happier with Derek Lowe‘s first performance in pinstripes. Lowe pitched four innings of scoreless relief, earning his first save since 2001. He struck out four batters and allowed only two base runners, both via singles. He reinvented his sinker ball at least for one night and further exemplified the depth and quality of the Yankees bullpen. For Girardi it meant one more veteran arm in the bullpen who he can call on to eat up innings. (more…)

Yankees’ Trifecta: Swisher’s slam, Lowe’s relief aid Phelps’ first victory as starter

New York Yankees right fielder Nick Swisher blasted a go-ahead grand slam and Derek Lowe pitched four innings of relief for his first save in over 11 years (almost to the date) which helped earn David Phelps his first victory as a starter in the Yankees 8-2 drubbing of Ryan Dempster and the Texas Rangers. A Primer on the Newest Yankees

We are about two weeks removed from the trade deadline which allows us to speculate how the newest Yankees will perform over the rest of the season. With the standings getting tighter these past few weeks, and injuries to key players occurring, the Bronx Bombers picked up Casey McGehee and Derek Lowe. Sure it’s a little late to do a “primer” on McGehee, but humor me for just a minute. (more…)

The New York Yankees revealed some surprising news yesterday just after they beat the Toronto Blue Jays for their fourth consecutive victory. CC Sabathia was headed to the disabled list retroactive to Thursday with a sore elbow. (more…)
