At this point, not only is the free-agent market shrinking, but so are the hopes of finding a worthwhile catcher. For Francisco Cervelli, he’s been up, down and all around the New York Yankees organization and 2013 may finally be the time he proves himself. Between Cervelli and Chris Stewart, at least in the minds of some fans, it becomes a “damned if you do, damned if you don’t” scenario, but I don’t see it that way. (more…)

The injuries, the inability to hit with runners in scoring position, inconsistency in each facet of the game and perceived managerial lapses have all been a part of the 2012 New York Yankees season. You know what? After 110 games, the Bronx Bombers are in first place by five games in the loss column (yes John Sterling in this instance you are right; forget the half game, the loss column is where the records matter). Yet, most of the chatter from some “fans” blasts the Yankees. I say this is a team that should be embraced. (more…)

Yankees’ bench allowing luxuries to Cashman, Girardi and starting squad

When the New York Yankees take the field on a given day, they send out a starting squad with a mix of older veterans, seasoned players and “peak” performers. The youngest players on the field on a regular basis are Russell Martin and Robinson Cano, both 29-years-old with Martin being four months Cano’s minor. Of course, the Yankees’ brass knew this going into the season, so their desire when building the bench was to have players who could not only fill in on occasion, but could handle lengthier periods of time on the field if required. The Yankees hoped that if there was a need to play a reserve on a more regular basis, they would not hinder the team’s overall performance. This Yankees’ bench has done that and more in 2012. New York Yankees starter CC Sabathia hates being on the disabled list. He enjoys carrying the moniker of workhorse. So, while he was recovering from a groin strain for close to the last three weeks, he made sure that when he returned he would be ready. Against the Toronto Blue Jays last night, Sabathia looked more like a pitcher who was on a roll than one who just got off the disabled list. (more…)

It is no secret that the New York Yankees are able to spend more than just about every other team in Major League Baseball. In doing so, the Yankees have signed some contracts which are not going to end up paying full dividends based on the player’s performance on the field this season and beyond. Yankees put seal on successful first-half with romp over Red Sox

The New York Yankees wrapped up the first-half of the season by beating the Boston Red Sox last night in the series finale of a four-game set. The Yankees won three out of the four games and put a strangle hold on the AL East lead in the process with a 7-3 victory over the Red Sox. (more…)

Girardi sticks by Martin; does he have a choice?

New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi has all the confidence in the world in starting catcher Russell Martin. The organization showed hesitation in Martin as a long-term solution this past offseason, instead offering a one-year deal worth $7.5 million. It’s looking like they made the right decision. (more…)
