A few players that could impress the Yankees in September

With September being two weeks away, the rosters for every team expand from 25 players to 40. With those extra 15 players, there may be a few that could make a case to be on the team next year instead of being in the minors. The New York Yankees have a few interesting players, especially in areas where they are hurting. The starting pitching outside of Hiroki Kuroda has been extremely sluggish, the bullpen could always use some padding and offensively, some of these guys who are playing now may not be there next year. A few players the Yankees may want to keep an eye on are Adam Warren, Brandon Laird, Justin Thomas, and David Adams as they are all on the 40-man roster. (more…)

Yanks drop series finale to Rangers despite rally

Hiroki’s Gem: Picture Post

Although we didn’t get a no-hitter, it was about as close as you can get. Hiroki Kuroda silenced the Rangers’ bats on Tuesday to the tune of a two-hit, complete-game shutout. It was the closest I’ve ever been to witnessing a no-no in person, and also the only complete game I’ve ever attended (I think).

A Primer on the Newest Yankees

We are about two weeks removed from the trade deadline which allows us to speculate how the newest Yankees will perform over the rest of the season. With the standings getting tighter these past few weeks, and injuries to key players occurring, the Bronx Bombers picked up Casey McGehee and Derek Lowe. Blue Jays bury Hughes; Yankees unable to dig all the way out in 10-7 loss

The New York Yankees saw their four-game win streak snapped yesterday afternoon as Phil Hughes suffered through his second poor start in a row. The Toronto Blue Jays ripped Hughes to the tune of seven runs in four innings dropping his record to 11-10 and raising his ERA to 4.44. The Yankees mounted a spirited comeback but it fell short in the 10-7 loss. (more…)

The New York Yankees ended a two-game losing streak by rapping out 18 hits in a 12-8 victory over the Detroit Tigers. The Yanks took what should have been a comfortable lead, almost coughed it up and then pulled away in the end. (more…)

MLB Trade Deadline: Did the Yankees measure up with the rest of the AL East?

On Tuesday at 4:00 pm, the New York Yankees made a minor yet important trade getting Casey McGehee from the Pittsburgh Pirates for soon to be DFA’d reliever Chad Qualls. It was the second deal completed by the Yankees in advance of the non-waiver deadline. The first, which you can see analysis of here, was getting Ichiro Suzuki and cash from the Seattle Mariners for two minor league pitchers, D.J. Mitchell and Danny Farquhar. The Yankees through Brian Cashman stated time and again that they would not make any major moves because of the cost factor and because they felt that they were in a good position with the roster, not to mention they expected to have Joba Chamberlain back soon (he of course has since returned) and Alex Rodriguez and Andy Pettitte back in September.
