There are many factors that are going into the current struggles for the New York Yankees, yet time and time again, I keep finding myself placing blame on Boone Logan. At the time of this writing, the Yankees stand at 1-4, and run the risk of starting 1-5 after today’s game against Justin Verlander and the Detroit Tigers. If Joe Girardi must go to the bullpen, he might want to think twice about putting Logan in the game. (more…)

Boone Logan, the Yankees former LOOGY who graduated to face righties in 2012, has joined fellow pitchers, Phil Hughes and Joba Chamberlain, in avoiding arbitration yesterday. It’s Logan’s final year before hitting free agency when the 2013 season concludes. Also, the Yankees “Get out of jail free” card, David Robertson, submitted his salary figure (the Yanks did too) as negotiations begin to bring him back to the Bronx. (more…)

As a whole, Boone Logan’s season wasn’t THAT bad. Although you wouldn’t know it by reading Twitter or some of the blogs out there. His WHIP (1.373), HR/9 (1.0) and BB/9 (4.6) were a little high, and his ERA+ was a little low (112), but his SO/9 (11.1) and SO/BB (2.43) were juuuuuust right. (more…)

How many times have Yankees fans said, “Boone flippin’ Logan,” in the second half of the season? I, like many others, was ready to anoint Boone Logan as a bonafide top-flight reliever. It appeared he graduated from LOOGY to a reliever who can go more than one inning and take on right-handed hitters. His season totals aren’t bad with a 3.83 ERA (3.66 FIP) and holding hitters to a .239/.328/.398 slash line. (more…)

There has been some hideous baseball played by the boys from the Bronx lately. There’s just no sugar-coating it anymore. But instead of dwelling on all of that (and there is a LOT to dwell on if you’ve been watching the Yankees over the last month or so), let’s take a look at one of the bright spots of the year: the performance of Boone Logan. Though his struggles (including a killer home run in Game 137 against the Orioles by newly-minted Yankee Killer Mark Reynolds) have been magnified by the team’s slide, Logan has put up very respectable numbers throughout 2012. Most importantly, if the Yankees want to make the playoffs, let alone win the division, they’ll need Logan to continue his solid season and finish strong. (more…)

The New York Yankees are on a roll and it’s their pitching doing most of the leg work. Freddy Garcia continues to be reliable, if not better, than some of his younger cohorts. He tossed 6 2/3 innings of two-run ball, both runs off Josh Hamilton homers, as the Yankees have won the seven of their last eight games. (more…)

New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi couldn’t have been happier with Derek Lowe‘s first performance in pinstripes. Lowe pitched four innings of scoreless relief, earning his first save since 2001. He struck out four batters and allowed only two base runners, both via singles. He reinvented his sinker ball at least for one night and further exemplified the depth and quality of the Yankees bullpen. For Girardi it meant one more veteran arm in the bullpen who he can call on to eat up innings. (more…)

Yankees ground Blue Jays with late spurts

For the third straight game the New York Yankees scored important runs in the late innings to aid in a victory. Last night, like the first game of now a three-game win streak, the runs allowed the Yankees to pull away in an otherwise close game. After Freddy Garcia pitched well to hold a slim Yankee lead, Ichiro Suzuki recorded four RBI in the last two innings, pacing the team’s three-run and four-run outbursts in the eighth and ninth innings, resulting in a 10-4 thumping of the Toronto Blue Jays at Rogers Centre.
