After an illustrious 14 years or so of crushing the ball as one of the best players in baseball, time has finally caught up to A-Rod. He is getting old, plain and simple, and it shows in the numbers, both traditional and sabermetric. Today, we’ll continue the Sabermetric Outlook Series by taking a deeper look at A-Rod. (more…)

Now I’d like to look forward to the second-half for the New York Yankees. Will the top performers keep performing? Will the slackers pick up the pace? Who will be the biggest surprises and disappointments in the second half? Will another mediocre relief pitcher refer to the Yankees as some sort of farm animal? I don’t know about the last question, but I can make some educated guesses about the others. (more…)

Through four games, the Yankees have the best K:BB ratio in MLB at 18:25. Their 25 walks lead the majors and their 18 strikeouts are the second lowest in the game (the Tigers have 17 K but also have only drawn eight walks).

Their .257 BABIP puts them right at the middle of the pack, and once those hits start dropping in we’ll look back at this three-game “slide” and laugh.

Let’s be honest, the Yanks have slugged just three home runs (third lowest in ball) in their four games. As soon as they find their stroke they’re going to start murdering teams; regression is a wonderful thing.
