Over this past weekend, the New York Yankees had their chances to put away the Boston Red Sox at the Stadium, but they fell short. Sunday’s game was probably the most disappointing to Yankee fans because a walk-off win could have buried Boston psychologically, but a bloop hit by Pedro Ciriaco in the 10th inning off of David Robertson sealed the series for the Red Sox. New York has not played their best brand of baseball, but they still lead the division by 7.5 games as we head into the MLB non-waiver trade deadline on Tuesday at 4:00 PM EST. This series, however, against the Orioles will be important for New York to try and gain more separation in the division. (more…)

Mark Teixeira has been hacking both at the plate and from a cough which has lasted as long as his slump. But, last night was what he hopes to be a turning point. Teixeira beat a modified shift the only way he knows how. He blasted a go-ahead two-run home run in the top of the seventh inning propelling the New York Yankees past the first place Baltimore Orioles. (more…)

Who’s the master? Adam Jones! WHO’S THE MASTER?!?! ADAM JONES!!!

Clap! Clap! Clap! And I’m not telling three people at a health clinic what they have. No, I’m actually giving props to the Baltimore Orioles for their Opening Day victory over the New York Yankees, 10-5 (Boxscore). And not a simple victory, but a straight up shellacking! What happened? Not only is this the equivalent of a swipe at the Yankees’ money and its reckless use, but also a kung fu kick to the testicles!

Both prized free agent offseason signings that played in this game did jacksquat. CC Sabathia went all of 4.1 innings, giving up six runs on eight hits and five walks, and having zero strikeouts. ZERO K’s?!?!?! That hasn’t happened since July 25, 2005 versus the Oakland A’s in Sabathia’s hometown Bay Area. Carsten Charles Sabathia (pulls on Sloth from “The Goonies”-type ear), you better get your stuff right, mister!
