Yanks avoid sweep with 3-2 walk-off

So, Michael Kay was doubly wrong today in questioning Joe Girardi NOT using Jorge Posada to pinch-hit in the 9th inning of today’s game. First, Nick Swisher hit a 2-run walk-off into the O’s bullpen. Second, and most ominous for Yankees fans, Girardi revealed after the game that Jorge was unavailable to pinch-hit today because he was feeling post-concussion symptoms after getting hit with a foul ball yesterday. Girardi also said that Posada went to visit a neurologist for his symptoms – another scary sounding situation. The fact that the Yankees have to [...]

C.C. stuck on 19 wins, Yanks lose 3rd Straight

After an 8-game win streak, the Yankees might not win another game this season. Kidding, of course, but these losses to 100% inferior competition could come back to bite them over the long haul. With your ace – your ONLY consistent starter, really – on the bump against a last place Orioles team, you can’t afford to give games like tonight away. Yes, the O’s are 21-13 under Buck Showalter – who was 1-0 career managing my ESPN softball team, by the way. Sure, it was C.C.’s first loss at Yankee Stadium since July 2nd of [...]

A-Rod returns, Yanks streak snapped

Michael Jordan… Jim Palmer… Sugar Ray Leonard… Apollo Creed against Ivan Drago… Alex Rodriguez… what do these all have in common? All failed comebacks. OK, A-Rod’s return to the lineup today wasn’t as sad as watching MJ in a Wizards uni. And, he didn’t get killed like Apollo Creed did. But, the return of Rodriguez DID coincide with the end of the Yankees 8-game win streak. And, there was some sort of fitting symmetry to A-Rod taking a called 3rd strike for the final out in Sunday’s 7-3 loss. The Bombers managed to go 11-3 while [...]
