Could Joba Chamberlain start again for the New York Yankees?

Well he’s certainly fond of the idea to be in a rotation again, whether it’s with the New York Yankees or not.

It’s true folks, Joba Chamberlain has the itch to become a starting pitcher again and really, maybe that isn’t necessarily a bad thing for the Yankees. While Chamberlain really has had quite the up and down career with some injuries thrown in there, the future of this rotation still remains uncertain. We can try to speculate who won’t and will be there in the coming seasons, but perhaps putting someone like Chamberlain in there, who has had prior starting experience before, could be for the better. New York Yankees News & Notes 3/2: Yanks lose to Phils, Cano focused on playing

Here we are Yankees’ fans, our second day into March and now less than a month until the season begins. Yesterday, the Yanks suffered a loss to Roy Halladay and the Philadelphia Phillies. While Hiroki Kuroda was tagged for four runs, only one was earned as errors led the Yanks to defeat. A few days after general manager Brian Cashman noted that the team had a “significant offer” for Robinson Cano, the second baseman said he’s not thinking about an extension. Cano noted that he’s focused on 2013 more than anything. (more…)

When the New York Yankees begin the 2013 season, they’ll do so with perhaps the most feared part of their veteran Yankee triple threat. Of course pitchers hate facing Derek Jeter, batters dread Andy Pettitte, but nobody fears them like they do Mariano Rivera. In 2013, the Sandman will make his long awaited return after tearing his ACL last May.

Are the New York Yankees Starting Pitchers Underrated?

When you think of the New York Yankees and pitching, typically there haven’t been a positives in the past few years. However, if we just look at not only last season, but the postseason, we’ll see that the Yankees do have one of the most solid top three pitchers in a rotation. Not many teams have a lot of dual threats as a one and two, but the Yankees have landed on three. Even with CC Sabathia and Andy Pettitte sharing time on the disabled list last season, Hiroki Kuroda stepped up in a big way for the team.

New York Yankees Food For Thought: Justin Verlander in the rotation?

Relax, relax, this is more than likely never going to happen. Recently, the Detroit Tigers’ ace Justin Verlander mentioned how cool it would be for teams to fight over him once he hits free agency. Now, like with any other big name free agent, the New York Yankees are automatically thrown into the ring. Let’s say for the sake of argument that it is possible for Verlander to become a Yankee. Would signing Verlander be worth the giving up of draft picks and money? Is a long-term deal with someone like Verlander a possibility in New York?

Derek Jeter and the Yankees beyond 2013

Oh come on, don’t act like you were unaware of this scenario happening again. Yes, once again we New York Yankee fans will soon find ourselves in the awkward stage of Derek Jeter being a free agent. It’s hard to believe the three years in his latest contract will be up after 2013, but fret not, there was that option for a fourth year thrown in. Now, obviously Jeter is more than likely going to take the option to play another year in 2014, but you have to ask yourself, what’s beyond that? Where does his career go from there? Clearly Jeter has a lot of baseball left in him as he led the MLB with hits (216) in 2012 and that was no fluke. (more…)

The Yankees can win the AL East again

For some reason, the perception that the Toronto Blue Jays acquisitions back in November make them automatically the AL East champion is rather absurd. Sure, the additions they got from the Miami Marlins are nice and all, but what was Miami’s record in 2012? 69-93. If the four core players sent in that trade to Toronto couldn’t have jelled together in Miami, what is going to be the difference on a new team? I mean sure, the Blue Jays are going to be in the upper echelon of the division, at least on paper, but realistically folks, the New York Yankees aren’t going anywhere. (more…)

While the New York Yankees’ general manager Brian Cashman has been mum on the Alex Rodriguez situation, co-owner Hal Steinbrenner has not withheld his concern. Steinbrenner, looking at the deal his father made with Rodriguez, still owes A-Rod $114 million within the next five years. As far as baseball rivalries go, perhaps there hadn’t been a better one than between Joba Chamberlain and Kevin Youkilis. Chamberlain and Youkilis have had frequent run ins with each other in the past few years, but a simple phone call may have changed that for good. (more…)

The one debate that still has fire from last year is who is more deserving of being the fifth man in the rotation. The New York Yankees saw an incredibly down year out of Ivan Nova in 2012 and are hoping that the 26-year-old can rebound. In the other corner sits the other 26-year-old, David Phelps. What the Yankees saw out of Phelps was rather impressive considering he had big shoes to fill when CC Sabathia and Andy Pettitte landed on the disabled list. The world of the New York Yankees never slows down, even in the offseason. Recently, Yankees’ ace CC Sabathia announced that he’s up and ready to go for 2013. In 2012, Sabathia went on the disabled list twice and had arthroscopic surgery on his elbow back in October. The next bit of Yankee news comes as a bit of a shock, but much like the Alex Rodriguez case, nothing is definitive. The Biogenesis Clinic which has been under fire lately for supposedly supplying PEDs to players, now has Yankee catcher Francisco Cervelli thrown into the mix. (more…)
