Grading The Yankees: Raul Ibanez

By the end of spring training, the Raul Ibanez signing was panned by every pundit and Yankee fan alike. The guy hit well below the Mendoza Line, couldn’t buy a walk and had only one home run in the Grapefruit League. “This guy is supposed to be the lefty half of the DH platoon?!?” we all thought to ourselves. The designated hitter can’t hit!

Grading The Yankees: Boone Logan

As a whole, Boone Logan’s season wasn’t THAT bad. Although you wouldn’t know it by reading Twitter or some of the blogs out there. His WHIP (1.373), HR/9 (1.0) and BB/9 (4.6) were a little high, and his ERA+ was a little low (112), but his SO/9 (11.1) and SO/BB (2.43) were juuuuuust right. (more…)

A Nick Swisher Retrospective, Man

My affection toward Nick Swisher has been well-documented, while other fans’ feelings about him have also been duly noted. However, I really couldn’t care less about the latter. I am an unapologetic Swisher apologist, and with his time in pinstripes all but through I thought I’d write a mini retrospective of his four years in the Bronx. After all, he is one of Cashman’s greatest heists (if not the greatest).

Grading the Yankees: Curtis Granderson

All or nothing. That pretty much describes Curtis Granderson at the plate in 2012. While he did blast 43 home runs, he only had 138 hits. Think about that; almost 1/3 of his hits were home runs. I’m not one of those people who subscribe to the “too many home runs” theory, but when you hit that many homers and your batting average is .232 it’s a little disconcerting. (more…)

Final Thoughts On 2012

Ugh. What an awful ending to a great season. Say what you want about the Yanks’ 2012 campaign, but don’t dare call it a failure. A disappointment yes, but certainly not a failure. During the regular season they had the best record in the AL and pretty much the best offense in baseball. It’s just a shame that all their bats went cold at the worst possible time; a collective .188/.254/.303 line in the postseason isn’t going to cut it. What makes it even more infuriating is that their pitching was absolutely incredible. (more…)

Raul Game: Picture Post

Arguably the greatest Yankee postseason game since 2001 (easily the best sporting event I’ve ever attended) went down last night. Game 3 of the ALDS — the Raul Game. My bank account is drained, my throat is destroyed and I’m terribly hungover, but I would give absolutely anything to relive that game. There are no words to describe it, so here are some pictures. Pics are worth 1,000 words, right? So consider this the longest post you’ll ever read.
