On last night’s Yanks Go Yard Radio Show, we look ahead to the final series of the season between the Orioles and Yankees

At the beginning of last night’s Yanks Go Yard Radio Show, I started off by talking about the New York Yankees (83-76) sweeping the Boston Red Sox at home. However, they were eliminated from playoff contention due to the Orioles win in Toronto last night.

With that being said, my favorite moment from this week’s series was Mark Teixeira’s walk-off grand slam against Joe Kelly on Wednesday night. In his final week, Teixeira has had some big home runs to help the Yankees be on this current four-game win streak. Tonight, they begin their final series of the season against the Orioles (87-72), who are fighting for one of the two Wild Card spots.

Heading into tonight’s game, Buck Showalter’s squad is tied with the Blue Jays and both teams lead the Tigers by 1.5 games. This week, Baltimore won two out of three games at the Rogers Centre. Their big moment came in the ninth inning on Wednesday when Hyun Soo Kim hit a two-run pinch-hit home run against closer Roberto Osuna.

More from Yanks Go Yard

This month, the Orioles have hit 38 home runs, which is the third most in the American League. Despite all those home runs, they are tied for the third fewest runs scored over that span (Yankees and Blue Jays have scored fewer). The two players with six home runs this month are Chris Davis and Mark Trumbo.

On the mound, Baltimore’s pitching has been one of the reasons they are in position to make the playoffs. In the month of September, the Orioles have the lowest team ERA in the AL (2.97). The starter with the lowest ERA this month is Ubaldo Jimenez (3-1, 2.31 ERA in five starts), who shut out Toronto last night.

My guest for last night’s Yanks Go Yard Radio Show was the editor of Birds Watcher, Domenic Vadala. Domenic gave his thoughts on the Orioles playoff chances and he gave his take on why Baltimore is 2-5 at Yankee Stadium this season, even with their strong offense.

In addition to talking about the possible pitching matchups, we gave our hitters to watch in this series. For me, the Yankees hitters to watch this weekend are Gary Sanchez and Tyler Austin. As for the Orioles, Domenic said to keep an eye on Kim and Michael Bourn. Finally, we discussed Zach Britton’s Cy Young case (47 saves, 0.55 ERA) and whether or not the O’s should re-sign Trumbo this winter.

Last night was the last episode for the Yanks Go Yard Radio Show. I started this podcast in June 2011 and it has now come to an end. I want to thank all of the guests I have had and all the people who have supported this show over the years. Without all of you, none of this would’ve been possible.
