Former Yankees great Derek Jeter has officially re-signed with Jordan Brand Baseball as ‘Captain,’ and will play an integral role in defining the future of his RE2PECT line.

Derek Jeter’s RE2PECT line will officially hit stores in the Spring of 2017, just in time for the new Major League Baseball Season. Jeter himself will play an active part in the continued development of his signature line, which first came to fruition with the announcement of his retirement in 2014.

A limited edition apparel selection was then released, soon becoming one of Jordan’s most successful collections to date.

Jeter’s impact on the line will include such things as choosing colorways, designing new styles, and of course having a say on comfort and capability for athletes and consumers alike.

Beginning back in 2002, Jeter became the first player in baseball history to be sponsored by Jumpman. 13 editions later, Jeter became the longest tenured athlete in Jordan Brand history, besides Michael Jordan himself. Per Jordan’s statement on the project:

"Derek is one of the hardest workers I have ever met. His work ethic was evident in the way he played the game of baseball and it continues to drive the way he approaches his business career after retirement. We are excited to continue our relationship with him and for what he brings to the brand as we continue to grow."

As usual, Jeter was a class-act in his response to the future of Jordan Brand Baseball:

"I am thrilled to continue my relationship with the Jordan Brand. I spent my entire baseball career trying to be the best player I could be and I am excited to help the next generation reach that goal through Jordan Training and Baseball."

Did you know that Jeter had originally signed a sneaker deal with Fila way back in the late 1990s as his career began to skyrocket? True story.
