On Tuesday night’s Yanks Go Yard Radio Show, we looked ahead to the Yankees’ upcoming series against the Baltimore Orioles

On last night’s episode of the Yanks Go Yard Radio Show, I started off the episode by giving my takeaways from the New York Yankees (8-15) being swept at Fenway Park by the Boston Red Sox. The Yankees are now 1-5 on this road trip and searching for answers. I also gave my thoughts on Brian Cashman’s comments to Anthony Rieber of Newsday yesterday.

Now, the Yankees will finish their nine game road trip in Camden Yards when they take on the Baltimore Orioles (14-10) in a three game series beginning tonight. Buck Showalter’s team has been one of the early surprises this year in all of baseball.

Their offense hasn’t missed a beat from last year as they have hit the most home runs in the American League (34) and are fourth in runs scored. They are led by third baseman Manny Machado, who won AL Player of the Month for April. Machado is hitting .350 with seven home runs, 16 RBI’s, and a .404 on-base percentage in 24 games. But, they will be without shortstop J.J. Hardy for a while because of a broken left foot.

However, the Orioles’ rotation continues to be a big question mark with Yovani Gallardo currently on the disabled list because of shoulder tendonitis. Even with Gallardo, the O’s 5.08 starters’ ERA is the third worst in the AL. The only two teams with higher starters’ ERA in the AL are the Astros (5.08) and the Yankees (5.16).

Despite the struggles of the starting rotation, the bullpen continues to be one of the strengths of this team. The O’s have had seven wins from their bullpen (tied with the Rays for most in the AL) and have the second lowest ERA in the AL (2.23). They continue to have a strong combo at the end of games with closer Zach Britton (6-for-6 in saves) and setup man Darren O’Day.

  • Thoughts on the starting rotation?
  • Pitching Matchup Breakdown
  • Chris Tillman (tonight’s O’s starter) has held opponents to a .211 batting average
  • Luis Severino (tonight’s Yankee starter) has a .372 opponents batting average

  • C.C. Sabathia (Tomorrow’s Yankees’ starter) has given up three runs in each of his first four starts
  • Masahiro Tanaka (Thursday’s Yankees’ starter) has given up two runs in each of his first five outings
