Chasen Shreve and Johnny Barbato combined to give up three home runs late in the game Thursday, as the Oakland Athletics (9-7) defeated the New York Yankees (5-9) 7-3 at Yankee Stadium to finish off a three-game sweep.

Shreve served up back-to-back solo home runs to Khris Davis and Coco Crisp after taking over for Yankees starter Luis Severino in the top of the seventh inning with the game tied at 2-2.

The 25-year-old southpaw gave up two runs on two hits in his lone inning of work. Shreve took the loss and is now 1-1 on the year.

The two runs were the first Shreve has surrendered this season.

A two-out RBI single by Starlin Castro cut the deficit to 4-3 in the bottom of the seventh inning.

But, that would be as close as the Yankees would get.

Chris Coghlan smacked a two-out, two-run home run in the top of the eighth inning off Johnny Barbato to extend the A’s advantage to 6-3. The long ball was Coghlan’s second of the year.

Mark Canha added a sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth to give the A’s their seventh and final run.

New York threatened in the ninth inning, but Oakland closer Ryan Madson came on to retire the final two batters to earn his sixth save.

Severino gave up two runs, seven hits and struck out four over six innings. He received a no-decision.

Hill earned his second win of the season, improving his record to 2-2. The 36-year-old left-hander gave up two runs on three hits and racked up 10 strikeouts over six innings.

Aaron Hicks and Austin Romine both had RBI singles for the Yankees in the loss.

As a team, the Bronx Bombers went 3-11 with runners in scoring position Thursday. They left nine men on base.

The Yankees are now 1-5 on their current nine game homestand and have lost seven of their last eight games.

Tomorrow, the Yankees will begin a three-game weekend series against the Tampa Bay Rays in the Bronx. New York will send CC Sabathia (1-1, 5.06 ERA) to the hill to face Matt Moore (1-0, 2.95 ERA) for Tampa Bay at 7:05 p.m.
