On last night’s episode, we looked ahead to the Yankees’ next series at the Rogers Centre against the Blue Jays

On last night’s episode of the Yanks Go Yard Radio Show, I gave my takeaway from the New York Yankees (3-2) splitting their two game series against the Detroit Tigers since Sunday night’s game was postponed due to inclement weather. Plus, I gave my reaction to the Yankees bringing back Nick Swisher on a minor league contract.

The Bronx Bombers now are in Toronto to begin a three game series tonight against the reigning AL East champions, the Toronto Blue Jays (3-4) at the Rogers Centre. Toronto comes into this game having lost four of its last five games.

So far, the story of the Blue Jays has been the great start for the reigning AL MVP, Josh Donaldson. Donaldson, who has been battling a strained calf but is back at third base tonight, is hitting .310 with four home runs and nine RBI’s. However, the Blue Jays as a team have only hit nine homers through the first seven games.

Two guys who have been struggling mightily in John Gibbons’ lineup are former Yankee catcher Russell Martin, who has only been hitting .100, and shortstop Troy Tulowitzki (.120, one home run and three RBI’s). To talk more about the Blue Jays, my guest for this show was Keegan Matheson, the senior editor for the Blue Jays’ FanSided site, Jays Journal. Here are some of the topics that Keegan and I discussed on the show:

  • Takeaways from the first week of Blue Jays games
  • No concerns about Donaldson’s calf injury?
  • Could Jose Bautista potentially move to first base at some point?
  • Pitching Matchup Breakdown
  • What to expect in Aaron Sanchez’s second start tonight?
  • Masahiro Tanaka should benefit from extra rest tonight against Toronto?
  • The re-emergence of J.A. Happ (Tomorrow’s Blue Jays’ starter)
  • Michael Pineda (tomorrow’s Yankees starter) giving up three home runs in his last outing
  • Marcus Stroman’s maturation as an ace (Thursday’s Blue Jays’ starter)
  • Nathan Eovaldi (Thursday’s Yankees starter) coming off giving up five runs in his last outing vs. Houston
  • Blue Jays hitters to watch: Jose Bautista and Troy Tulowitzki
  • Yankees hitters to watch: Didi Gregorius and Carlos Beltran
  • Thoughts on the Jose Bautista illegal slide from last week
  • Any concerns about the Blue Jays besides closer Roberto Osuna?
