In a rare spring training night-cap, the New York Yankees squared off against their rival Boston Red Sox down in Fort Myers, Florida.

Following CC Sabathia‘s poor performance over the weekend, Ivan Nova looked to solidify his spot as the Yankees fifth starter, and he certainly delivered.

The right-hander held the Red Sox to just three hits and one earned run over four innings of work, including one walk and four strikeouts.

To counter Ivan Nova, the Red Sox sent southpaw David Price to the hill to get his first taste of the historic Yankees v. Red Sox rivalry, and he was quite impressive.

Price gave up just three hits and one earned run over four innings while walking none and striking out six, including two strikeouts to Yankees veteran Alex Rodriguez. His lone run came off a home run that was launched over the right-center field wall by Aaron Hicks.

Following David Price, the Red Sox sent high-profiled closer Craig Kimbrel to the hill to get his first taste of the rivalry as well, and he fanned two of the three batters he faced in a 1-2-3 fifth inning.

With the score tied 1-1 in the eighth inning, the Yankees powered through with five runs off Robbie Ross Jr. thanks to RBIs from Cesar Puello and Cito Culver to put the Yankees up 6-1.

Nick Rumbelow and Nick Goody struggled a bit out of the Yankees ‘pen, but when all was said and done the Yankees came away with a 6-3 victory of the BoSox.

Up next for the Yankees is another spring training night game tomorrow against the Toronto Blue Jays where Nathan Eovaldi will take the hill against Drew Hutchison.

All eyes will be on Brett Gardner, as he’s expected to make his spring training debut tomorrow night for the Bronx Bombers.
