Yankees Interested in Shelby Miller?

Despite the fact that Shelby Miller wen’t 6-17 with a 3.02 ERA in 2015 with the Atlanta Braves, he’s been one of the hottest names in trade discussions as of late.

As a mater of fact, according to a surplus of reports the Atlanta Braves are actively shopping the 25-year old right hander, and per Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, the Yankees have been one of the teams the Braves have spoken to about a possible trade:

However, as you can see in the report above, Braves GM John Copolella’s early asking price is the Yankees 21-year old stud Luis Severino.

Now despite the fact that Shelby Miller’s value far exceeds his ugly record in 2015, odds are the Yankees still wouldn’t consider moving Severino in any package to land the 25-year old Shelby Miller.

Luis Severino is not only four years younger than Shelby Miller, but he also has a higher ceiling than him as well. Also, while Shelby Miller is set to become an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his young career in 2019, Luis Severino will just be entering his first year of arbitration eligibility.

It’s no secret that the Yankees are looking to upgrade in starting pitching, and it’s obvious that they covet a young pitcher who they can control for the foreseeable future, making Shelby Miller an ideal target, but not at the steep expense of Luis Severino.

Ever since Severino broke into the majors as a September call up he has bedazzled the baseball world at large. He drew comparisons to MLB Hall of Famer Pedro Martinez, and after going 5-3 with a 2.89 ERA in 11 starts, he certainly matched the hype.

The Braves are also gauging interest in Shelby Miller from teams like the Los Angeles Dodgers, Miami Marlins, Arizona Diamondbacks, San Francisco Giants and of course, the Boston Red Sox.

It’ll be interesting to see if the Red Sox are willing to part ways with Mookie Betts or Rusney Castillo in a package for Shelby Miller after signing ex-Yankee Chris Young over the weekend.
