New York Yankees News: Yankees Re-Sign Garrett Jones

facebooktwitterreddit

Well, today the New York Yankees have resigned first-base and outfield utility-man Garrett Jones.

The news was first reported by Jack Curry of the YES Network:

Jones was recently designated for assignment in order to make room for Dustin Ackley following the MLB trade deadline. As Curry noted above, Jones elected free agency instead of taking a minor league assignment, but with Ackley heading to the 15-day DL, the Yankees decided to bring him back.

The 34-year old veteran was slashing an unimpressive .215/.257/.361 before being cut by the Yankees. While he’s posted much better stats in the past and was figured to benefit from the short porch in Yankee Stadium, I still believe the only way Garrett Jones will have any sort of impact is if he get’s more playing time.

Non the less, Jones will probably only continue to see action against right-handed pitchers, and once Ackley is ready to return, I wouldn’t be surprised if Jones was released again.
