New York Yankees Recap: Nathan Eovaldi Very Sharp as Yankees win 7-2

In the final game of this three game series the Yankees were able to beat the Twins 7-2, and take another series. The Yankees continue to have a great July, and just keep winning series after series. Nathan Eovaldi was on the mound for the Yankees and was able to get his 10th win of the year.

In the third inning was the first and only real trouble for Eovaldi that he had the entire game. It was second and third with one out with the Twins meat of the order comes up. Torii Hunter was able to have a productive out to bring in the first run of the game. Then Eovaldi was able to get Joe Mauer out on a great catch by Jacoby Ellsbury, and avoid any other damage.

The Yankees were able to tie the game up in the top of the fifth. Chase Headley  hit a monster home run off of Twins starter Kyle Gibson. In the sixth, the Yankees were able to load the bases with nobody out. After a strikeout by Carlos Beltran, Garrett Jones was able to get a base hit, and take the lead. Headley came up after Jones, and smacked a double right down the line to make the score 4-1. After Headley’s double the Twins pulled Gibson.

With a new pitcher in the sixth the Yankees were able to take advantage of Ryan O’Rourke. Didi Gregorius dropped a bunt that was able to score Garrett Jones to make it 5-1. Then everybody’s favorite second basemen Stephen Drew hit a two run home run to blow the door wide open. The Yankees were able to send nine to the plate in the top of the sixth, and score six runs to make the game 7-1.

While the Yankees offense had a great day, and lots of timely hitting, the day belongs to Nathan Eovaldi. Today, Eovaldi was very sharp against the Twins. Nathan Eovaldi went eight full innings today. He only gave up two runs, and was able to strikeout out five, while only walking one batter.

Eovaldi came in to pitch the ninth, but after giving up a hit to the leadoff batter, and Eovaldi’s day was done. That runner would score in the ninth to make it 7-2.

The Yankees will be traveling to Texas as the Yankees have a four game series with the Texas Rangers. Ivan Nova will be starting the series for the Yankees. First pitch is at 8:05.
