New York Yankees News: Yankees Promising Power Prospect May Need Surgery

New York Yankees third base prospect Eric Jagielo is receiving  a second opinion on an injured knee that the young prospect hurt earlier in the week. Just recently we discussed the promising future of Eric Jagielo in a slide show you can see here.

Jagielo is currently playing at the Double A level with the Trenton Thunder. Jagielo was the Yankees first round draft pick in 2013 (26th overall). Currently, Jagielo is batting .284 with nine home runs and 35 RBI. He has played in 58 games for Trenton, before injuring his knee in a game earlier in the week.

Jagielo’s main problem is staying on the field. Just after being drafted Eric was diagnosed with diabetes. He has been able to control it, and was able to move on and play baseball. Then, he was sidelined with a reoccurring hamstring injury. He managed to play 92 games of High-A ball, but at the end of the season Jagielo was hit in the face with a fastball while batting. This injury caused him to miss all of the Arizona Fall League.

Jiagielo is no spring chicken for playing in Double A, as he is already 23 years of age. Eric Jiagielo is projected as the next Yankees third baseman, and still has a promising future with that left-handed power-bat that is tailor made for Yankee Stadium. The worst case for Eric is that his ACL or MCL is torn, and he will be shut down for the season. The best case is that Jiagielo just has a sprained knee and is in line for a brief stint on the DL.

We’ll all just have to hold our breath’s and wait and see.
