New York Yankees Trade Targets: Bring Back Prado?
By Jason Evans
Giancarlo Stanton is out for the next four weeks. Martin Prado has been out for a while as well as the Miami Marlins continue to sink. Prado is not expected back until after the All-Star break but if the Marlins continue to see themselves fade, when he comes back, could be made available in a trade.
The New York Yankees are already paying $3 million of his $11 million salary each of the next two years. Why not re-acquire him and pay the entire salary?
Yes, Prado needs to prove that he is healthy, but like last year when the Yankees got him, they could use him again. It would place the .184 hitting Stephen Drew on the bench where he belongs. In a backup role. Prado can play all over the place and give the Yankees different options and different looks when guys like Carlos Beltran or Chase Headley need a day off.
The Yankees don’t believe Rob Refsnyder is ready, and he hasn’t been able to play his way to force the Yankees hand either. He’s hitting just .247 down in AAA this month and only five of his 23 hits have gone for extra bases.
The Yankees offense has been pretty good in spite of struggles from their middle infielders (though Didi Gregorius is playing much better lately). Any sort of upgrade up the middle would be an ideal move for Brian Cashman as we approach one month to the deadline. Like last year, Prado would be an ideal pickup. If healthy.
