New York Yankees Recap: Yankees Shutout 4-0 By Astros and a Brilliant Dallas Keuchel

In case you missed it, the New York Yankees were blanked by the Houston Astros by the final score of 4-0. The score comes as little to no surprise, as the Astros are currently the best team in the American League with an overall record of 43-32.

It was a matchup between Dallas Keuchel, who improved to 9-3 with a 2.17 ERA after the win over losing pitcher Adam Warren, who fell to 5-5 with a 3.59 ERA.

The story of the game was undoubtedly the brilliance behind Keuchel, who tossed a complete game shutout, scattering six hits while striking out a career-high 12 batters and walking just one. The way he commanded the strike zone and mixed and matched his arsenal of pitches kept the Yankees off-balance all night. As a matter of fact, six of Keuchel’s 12 strikeouts alone were against Alex Rodriguez and Chase Headley, who both struck out threes times each. He even managed to keep half of the Yankees lineup hitless all game, and didn’t allow a baserunner to reach second base until the ninth inning. It was pure domination, and Keuchel would have beaten any team in baseball tonight.

Astros super-star Jose Alutve wen’t 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two stolen bases to lead Houston’s offense.  Evan Gattis also drove in a pair of runs, while Preston Tucker and Colby Rasmus also picked up RBIs for the Astros as well.

The Yankees fell 1.5 games behind the Tampa Rays for the division lead after tonight’s loss. The last time the Yankees headed West for a road trip things were not pretty. After dropping game one of their current road trip, they’ll look to get back on track in game two against the Astros and come out with a win, as Nathan Eovaldi (6-2, 4.95 ERA) is set to take up talented rookie and recent call up Vincent Velasquez (0-0, 4.15 ERA).
