New York Yankees News: Yankees call up Gregorio Petit and Reinstate Stephen Drew
By Matt Curran
As the Yankees get ready for their big series with the Houston Astros, they have made a couple of roster moves this morning. Stephen Drew has been reinstated after missing a few days while on paternity leave. The other player is Gregorio Petit, who was called up from Triple A.
Stephen Drew will be back in his starting role for the four game series with Houston. Maybe being a new father can put his mind at ease, and he will be able to get on base more consistently. Right now his batting average is .190, but his 11 home runs in second most among all second basemen in the entire league.
Gregorio Petit started the year with the Yankees to provide depth in the middle infield while Jose Pirela and Brendan Ryan were on the mend. In 35 at bats in the major leagues, Petit hit .200 for the Yankees with five RBI. Petit was likely recalled back up since Brendan Ryan was placed back on the DL.
Both of these players are expected to be in uniform today, as the Yankees will being play against the best team in the American League, the Houston Astros, and yes, I still cannot believe I am saying that in June of 2015.
