New York Yankee News: The Yankees Play Merry Go Round…Round 2

facebooktwitterreddit

A couple of days ago I talked about the Yankees having changing their roster drastically, you can read it here. Well, after that post the New York Yankees decided to have another round of new players, and so here is round two of the Yankees playing merry-go-round with their roster.

The biggest moves of them all was activating Ivan Nova from the DL. He pitched the series finally with the Philadelphia Phillies, and looked great in his first start since coming off Tommy John surgery.  In order to make room for Nova, the Yankees designated Jose De Paula for assignment. The left-hander was up for a whole two days.

Another major move, was Yankees starting second basemen Stephen Drew on paternity leave. Now this was not a technical move by the Yankees, they did call up Jose Pirela to start at second base while Drew is away. This move happened on June 23rd.

Also on the 23rd the Yankees made another bullpen change, as they called up Bryan Mitchell up from Triple A. Mitchell was called up earlier this month and was sent down two days later. To make room on the roster for Mitchell they option Ramon Flores back to Triple A to play for the RailRiders.

On the 24th, the Yankees officially put Brendan Ryan back on the DL, with a strain. The Yankees retroactive the injury to June 22, so Ryan will be available a couple of days earlier if he only needs 15 days. It has been a tough year for Ryan, as he has not been able to stay healthy all year.

Then after the finale with the Phillies, the Yankees made two more moves by sending down both Diego Moreno and Branden Pinder to Triple A to join the RailRiders. Moreno was called up on June 22nd. Pinder with one of the longer tenures on this merry-go-round was on the Yankees since June 19th. The Yankees have not announced who will replace these two pitchers, but I assume they will have two new pitchers on the roster before Thursday’s game with the Astros.

Now that we are all caught up on the Yankees roster move’s I am sure we have another update for you over at Yanks Go Yard within the foreseeable future. When there is another big grouping of moves in a short time period, we will be there for round three (This one could go the distance.)
