The New York Yankees have one of the best offenses in the game. In fact, coming into the game, the Yankees had the second highest run per game average. Their starting pitching on the other hand has not been good.  Coming into tonight, the starting pitcher’s ERA was 4.42 which is 24th in baseball.

CC Sabathia didn’t help things with his performance tonight as the Yankees lost to the Phillies again by a score of 11-6. The Yankees have given up 11 or more runs for the third straight game. This is only the second time that has happened since 1912.

The Yankees got the lead early in this one off Philly starter Sean O’Sullivan. Brett Gardner lead off with a double, went to third on a groundout and scored on Alex Rodriguez‘s sac fly. Garrett Jones led off the second with a solo shot.

The Phillies got one back on Cesar Hernandez‘s double, but Gardner would hit a solo shot in the bottom half of the frame to get that run right back.

The Phillies got to CC in a big way in the third. With one out, Andres Blanco doubled and Cameron Rupp hit a two-run homer. After an out, Ben Revere and Hernandez singled then new Yankee killer Maikel Franco hit his 10th homer of the year.

The Yankees tied it in the bottom half of the fifth. Chase Headley and A-Rod hit back to back homers. Chris Young would drive in Carlos Beltran with a double to tie it.

The Yankees would have their chances to get a lead. In the sixth, Gardner and Headley would reach, but A-Rod and Brian McCann would ground out.

Beltran led off the seventh with a double, but the Yankees couldn’t bring him around to score.

Dellin Betances got out of a jam in the eighth by striking out two, but it was a different story in the ninth.

Revere led off the inning with a double. Hernandez was then hit by a pitch. Franco then smashed a double past a diving Headley to drive in two. After a groundout and another hit by pitch that was it for Betances.

Nick Rumbelow came in for his major league debut and poured gasoline on the fire. He walked Dominic Brown to load the bases and Andres Blanco would bring home everyone with a three run triple.

Ivan Nova returns to the Yankees rotation later today at 1:05. Phillies’ ace Cole Hamels will get the ball for them.
