New York Yankees Editorial: What Does Alex Rodriguez 3,000 Hits Actually Mean?

facebooktwitterreddit

The New York Yankees are currently on an eight-game homestead, where Alex Rodriguez has cut the magic number to three.  3,000 hits in baseball is one of the most scared numbers of all-time. With Alex Rodriguez steroid uses, and year suspension the question everyone is asking; How do we react when Alex Rodriguez gets his 3,000 hit?

When you are about to achieve a feat that Barry Bonds, Ted Williams, and Babe Ruth never achieved is a great accomplishment. When a player use to hit 3,000 hits that meant automatic Hall of Fame selection, but that has change. Craig Biggio took a couple of tries, but has finally got into the Hall of Fame, but the most notorious 3,000 hitter to not be in…Rafael Palmeiro.

After four years of being on the ballot Rafael Palmeiro fell off the list. He is currently the only player to have been eligible for the Hall of Fame with over 3,000 hits, and will never be in the Hall of Fame. Is Alex Rodriguez’s fate more like Craig Biggio or will it be like the finger waging in front of congress Rafael Palmeiro?

With all this talk about if Alex Rodriguez should be a Hall of Fame baseball player or not, he has been the constant professional. All year A-Rod has been great with the media, and when talking to ESPNNewYork.com is no different.

"‘Besides that I’m getting old, it makes me proud that I’ve played for a long time and I’ve been able to be consistent,’ Rodriguez told ESPNNewYork.com. ‘It is just consistency over a long period of time.’"

As much as I like Alex Rodriguez, and love what he has done this year, I do not think he should be in the Hall of Fame. I am not person who says people who did take steroids deserves to be shun for baseball. I still believe Barry Bonds should be in the Hall of Fame. The line I have decided for myself, is if you were suspended for PEDs, you should not be in the Hall of Fame. A-Rod being suspended sadly means I would not vote for him.

Do you believe Alex Rodriguez should make it to Cooperstown?
