New York Yankees News: Esmil Rogers Outrighted Off Roster
By Jason Evans
The revolving door that is the back of the New York Yankees roster continues to turn tonight. After the game, the Yankees announced that Esmil Rogers was outrighted off of the 40-man roster.
What does that mean? Well, Rogers now has to decide whether or not to go down to AAA Scranton or become a free agent.

Sources told Lohud.com’s Chad Jennings that Rogers cleared waivers already, so this was something the Yankees had in the works for a while.
The Yankees claimed Rogers on waivers from the Blue Jays last July 31. He went 2-0 with a 4.68 ERA and a 1.28 WHIP. The Yankees decided to bring him back but this year didn’t have good results.
He went 1-1 this season with a 6.39 ERA in 17 games. In 31 innings he gave up 36 hits and 25 runs. Yikes.
So who’s taking Esmil’s spot. It may be newly signed Sergio Santos.
Santos pitched for AA Trenton on Thursday, pitching a scoreless inning with two strikeouts. The Yankees have other right-handed bullpen options at AAA like Jose Ramirez, Branden Pinder and Danny Burawa, but if Santos is indeed in the area, it’s going to be him.
Look for the official move tomorrow.
