New York Yankees Editorial: Chris Capuano Should Be Out of Rotation
By Matt Curran
On Wednesday Masahiro Tanaka will be making his much-anticipated return to the starting lineup. With the way Adam Warren has pitched in his last few starts, it looks like that Chris Capuano will be the odd man out.
Chris Capuano had one more chance to impress Joe Girardi, Larry Rothschild, and Brian Cashman, but threw very uninspiring baseball on Friday. While it was Chris Capuano’s best start of the season, he still ended with a lost giving up three runs, and still not able to go a full six innings. In his three starts this season Capuano has an ERA of 6.39 with a record of 0-3.
The only real argument I have heard to keep Capuano in the rotation over Warren is Adam Warren will help the bullpen out more than Capuano will help the bullpen. This argument is just asinine!
If you put Clayton Kershaw in the bullpen, that will help the Dodgers bullpen too. Adam Warren wants to be a starter and deserves to be starter the way he has pitched over his last several starts. It looks like Joe Girardi agrees with me, when he talked about Warren.
"Lately, he has been pitching as well as anybody we have in the rotation."
The question should be what will Chris Capuano’s role be when he Tanaka returns to the rotation? The Yankees currently carry four pitchers in the bullpen that are left-handed, so he is not needed to be a left-handed specialist.
I believe the Yankees should designate for assignment Esmil Rogers, and Capuano can replace Rogers as the long reliever on the team.
What do you think Yankee fans? Should Capuano still be in the rotation on Wednesday?
