The New York Yankees fell to the Oakland A´s 3-0 on Sunday afternoon. Oakland spoiled a strong start by Adam Warren, who allowed two runs and six hits in seven innings.

After threatening in the first with singles by Chase Headley and Alex Rodriguez against Oakland starter Jesse Chavez, the Yankees were never able to get to Chavez. Chavez, who has received little run support this year, dominated the Yankees after escaping in the first inning. He had excellent command of his fastball throughout.

Warren and Chavez traded zeroes until the bottom of the sixth. Billy Burns singled and then stole second and third. Stephen Vogt followed by smacking his eleventh home run of the year to give Oakland a 2-0 lead. That would prove to be the only support Chavez would need. The A´s did add an insurance run in the eighth. Once again it was Vogt who did the damage with a sacrifice fly.

Alex Rodriguez singled in the ninth. He now has a ten game hitting streak. Alex has been shortening his swing with two strikes to continue his hot hitting. After A-Rod´s single, Carlos Beltran walked. Brian McCann then came in to pinch hit, but struck out.

Garrett Jones then entered the game to pinch hit for John Ryan Murphy. But Jones was retired on an infield pop out to end the game. The loss was the Yankees third in the four game series. It left them in a tie for first place in the American League East with Tampa Bay.

Recently called up Ramon Flores followed an outstanding defensive game with his first major league hit. Flores is quickly showing that he belongs in New York. The Yankees now head to Seattle to open up a three- game series with the Mariners. Seattle is currently in fourth place in the American League West.
