Yanks Go Yard Radio Rewind: Royals-Yankees Preview (5/25-5/27)

On last night’s episode of the Yanks Go Yard Radio Show, brought to you by KNODA.com (that was recorded during last night’s Yankees-Rangers game on ESPN), I started off the show by talking about the New York Yankees (22-22) being dominated by the Texas Rangers over the weekend at Yankee Stadium. In the three-game sweep, the Rangers scored 30 runs, which included a seven run inning against Michael Pineda Friday and a 10-run third inning against CC Sabathia on Saturday.

With the loss last night, the Yankees have now lost six straight games and have lost ten of their last 11. New York did make a roster move before Sunday’s game to help their bullpen as they called up Jacob Lindgren, their second round pick from last year’s draft, from triple-A. It will be interesting to see what role Lindgren will play in this bullpen that needs help outside of Dellin Betances and Andrew Miller.

The Yankees will conclude their six game homestand against the Kansas City Royals (28-15), a team that defeated the Bronx Bombers in two out of three games at Kauffman Stadium (May 15-17). In those two wins, the Royals were 11-for-24 with runners in scoring position. Right now, Kansas City is one of, if not, the best team in baseball.

Ever since defeating the Yankees, the Royals have won five of their last six games. This past weekend, they took two out of three games at home against the St. Louis Cardinals. This season, Kansas City has been one of the best offensive teams in the game as they are second in runs scored and have the highest team batting average (.289). First baseman Eric Hosmer is still having a great season. He is hitting .311 with seven home runs and 30 RBI’s.

To talk more about the Royals as they head to Yankee Stadium, I spoke with Dave Hill, the co-editor of Kings of Kauffman, to breakdown the pitching matchups and talk about how the Royals offense has taken a completely different approach this year. Plus, is there a change in the way Ned Yost has managed games? Here are some of the other topics we talked about:
