The New York Yankees  woes continued on Saturday, as they were dismantled by the Texas Rangers 15-4.  CC Sabathia (1-4) only lasted 2.1 innings after giving up five runs on six hits as the Yankees had yet another third inning nightmare. He was replaced by Esmil Rogers, who promptly gave up another five runs. It was an ugly game marred by poor pitching and defense, an all too familiar narrative recently as the Yankees have now lost nine of their last ten. Rangers Nick Martinez (4-0) gets the win.

It was a productive game for the Ranger’s offense as they scored 15 runs on 15 hits against dreadful Yankee pitching, but it was a blowout 3rd inning that sealed the Yankees’ fate. The Rangers barrage began with a lead off walk to Jake Smolinski. Some poor defense by SS Didi Gregorious  and Carlos Beltran did not help out the struggling Sabathia and the scoring came fast and furiously.

An RBI single by Shin-Soo Choo scored the first run. After several fly balls to right field which were not fielded well by Carlos Beltran including one error the Rangers led 3-0, but it was a base hit by Adrian Beltre that sent Sabathia to the showers. Rogers came in for relief and surrendered another five runs of his own, including a 3-run home run by Choo.

Rogers pitched two scoreless innings before giving up another three runs in the 6th. After walking the first two batters Choo scored on a wild pitch to give the Rangers an 11-0 nothing lead, thus ending Rogers’s day. Branden Pinder replaced Rogers, but did not shut down the Rangers offense, as Prince Fielder scored on an Elvis Andrus sacrifice to make it 12-0.  Beltre plated on an Andrus single resulting in a 13-0 lead.

The Yankees offense was unimpressive through 5 innings before finally scoring in the late innings. Beltran hit a solo home run in the 6th to put the Yankees on the board ensuring that the Yankees would not be shut out. Rangers lead was 13-1 going into the 7th inning.

The Rangers capped off their scoring for the day in the 7th with a 2-run home run from the resurgent Price Fielder, who looks as if he may be heading for a solid 2015 after missing most of 2014 due to injury.

The Yankees did make some offensive waves late in the game as Gregorious launched his second home run of the season in as many games during in the 7th, bringing the score to 15-2.  The Yankees offense put together a late inning rally in the top of the 9th scoring 2 more runs in the loss when Gregorious scored on a John Ryan Murphy triple. Recent rookie call up Slade Heathcott continued to play well, going 1-4 with an RBI scoring the final run of the game, resulting in a 15-4 loss for the struggling Yankees. The game did have its moments, as it featured a position player pitching alert as RF/1B Garrett Jones pitched to close out the game.

The Yankees will try to avoid the sweep on Sunday. It is Bernie Williams Day at Yankee Stadium as the Yankees will honor Williams by retiring his No. 51, dedicating a plaque in monument park, and wearing a commemorative patch on their hats. The game will feature Chris Capuano (0-1 ) and Yovani Gallardo (3-6). The estimated start time is 8:05 EST and will be featured on ESPN Sunday Night Baseball.
