Mariano Rivera Jr. had a year to remember in 2015 for the Iona College Gaels, fanning 113 batters and posting a 2.65 ERA in 85 innings.

Thanks to his superb numbers, Mariano Rivera Jr., the son of the ex-Yankees future hall of famer Mariano Rivera, was named the 2015 Pitcher of the Year for the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference on Tuesday.

Rivera Jr, a junior at Iona College was named the MAAC pitcher of the week a total of three times in 2015. He also hurled six complete games with three shutouts in 14 total starts. He dominated the playing field all-season long, holding opposing offenses to a .211 batting average without giving up a home run.

Despite his breakout season, Mariano Rivera Jr is now 8-17 with an incredibly hight 4.52 ERA in three years at Iona College. He’s allowed a Nathan Eovaldi-esque total of 192 hits in 191 innings, striking out 177 and walking 67.

Heading into the summer of his senior year, it’ll be interesting to see what happens with the young right-hander moving forward. If he can give the Yankees even half of what his dad could, he’ll benefit the organization as a prospect with a dominant arm and an incredibly high ceiling.

I can’t wait to see how his professional career unfolds.
