Yankee Recap: Yankees Get Knocked Around and Lose 12-1

Things could be better for the New York Yankees as they lose their fourth game in a row, and lose the opening game of the series to the Kansas City Royals. From the beginning of the game it was obvious that Michael Pineda did not have his best stuff, but tried his best to keep the Yankees in the game. The starter for Kansas City, Chris Young, was able to keep the Yankee bats cold, and get the win in a 12-1 game.

This was Pineda’s first start after he struck out 16 batters, and his stuff was not the same. The slider did not bite as much, and he could not control his change-up. Pineda try to gut it out and only gave up 2 runs through five innings. The sixth inning is where the wheels fall apart, giving up a pair of triples with a single. Pineda’s final line was 5 1/3 giving up 10 hits, walking 0, striking out only one  and giving up five earned runs.

The Royals starting pitcher, Chris Young continues his phenomenal year going 5 2/3 giving up only one run. The 6’10 Princeton graduate gave the Yankees trouble all game with the lineup only getting four hits of the tall right hander. Then the Royals bullpen do what they do, and shut down the lineup for the rest of the game.

Two Kansas City Royals in particular had amazing games, Mike Moustakas (Moose) and Lorenzo Cain. Moose was a home run away from hitting the cycle, and Cain had five RBIs. Cain in particular has had an all-star season, and has become a legitimate superstar.

The sixth inning is where the game just collapsed. The Royals batted around (11 to the plate), scored six runs, and put this game to bed.

When  you look at the crooked number you can just blame it to on a bad night of pitching (which it was), but the hitting has been just horrible over this four game stretch. If the Yankees do not hit a home run, they will not win. This team can not string together multiple hits, besides Jacoby Ellsbury and Brett Gardner there is no hitter batting over .260. Watching a team, like the Royals who can string together hit after hit, makes me jealous that the Yankees line up will never be that type of line up.

The Yankees try to bounce back, and end this four game losing streak tomorrow at 7:10. The pitchers are CC Sabathia vs Danny Duffy.
