Yankees Editorial: What’s Next For Adam Warren?

facebooktwitterreddit

Adam Warren made arguably his best start of the season during Wednesdays 3-2 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field, tossing a career high 7.0 innings pitched while giving up three earned runs on seven hits, one walk and seven strikeouts. This was actually the first time in 2015 that Warren was able to pitch though the sixth inning, yet he still ended up with his second tally in the loss column.

With southpaw veteran Chris Capuano set to return to the Yankees rotation as early as next week, there has been a ton of speculation that Warren was likely headed to the Yankees bullpen, but the recent injury to Chase Whitley might alter those plans.

Despite Warren’s recent trend of burring out by the sixth inning in six of his seven starts this season, the Yankees might be left with no choice but to keep Warren in their rotation for the foreseeable future. Masahiro Tanaka (elbow) and Ivan Nova (elbow) are still pitching on minor league assignments and it appears as if Chase Whitley’s injury is serious enough that it might result in tommy john surgery.

As it stands now, Adam Warren and Chris Capuano are slated as the fourth and fifth pitchers in the Yankees rotation behind Michae Pineda, C.C Sabathia and Nathan Eovaldi, and will probably make their next scheduled starts against the Washington Nationals, as the aforementioned three pitchers are scheduled to pitch in each of the three upcoming games against the Kansas City Royals starting tonight at 8:10pm.

Things are about to bet interesting for the Yankees pitching staff. Stay tuned!
