The Yankees True Ace This Year is Michael Pineda

In the offseason after the 2011 the Yankees made a trade with the Seattle Mariners. The Mariners got the top Yankee prospect Jesus Montero, and the Yankees got a potential ace in Michael Pineda. Jesus Montero has been as big of bust as I can remember in recent years, and it now looks like Pineda is becoming the ace of the 2015 Yankees.

After the trade with the Mariners, Michael Pineda did not pitch for two years, and miss the 2012 and 2013 years. Pineda was able to pitch in 2014, and showed some promise, and made Yankee fans hope that he could become a very solid starter.

This year Pineda is healthy and has been simply put brilliant. On Tuesday Michael Pineda had his best start as a Yankee going eight shutout innings on the road against a great lineup in the Toronto Blue Jays. This year Michael Pineda is 4-0 with a 2.97 ERA.

When Pineda was traded he was a hard throwing right-handed pitcher that was a little wild. Those two years off Pineda was able to understand how to pitch, and not just throw the ball hard. Even with the velocity down his strikeout to walk ratio is one of the best in baseball. In 39 innings pitched he has struck out 38 people and walked only 3.  Pineda is second in baseball with a 38 to 3 strikeout to walk ratio. Pineda also ranks second in walk ratio.

The biggest question with Michael Pineda, which seems like ever Yankee pitcher, is health. Pineda was shut down for two years with shoulder problems, but has looked strong this year. On Tuesday against the Blue Jays Pineda threw over 100 pitches for the first time since 2011. Joe Girardi is trusting Pineda more and more, and the Yankees need him to be the pitcher who can stop that losing streak.

Do you believe that Michael Pineda can be the ace of this staff?
